Car Heaven

Climate Change Central, in partnership with the Clean Air Foundation, operates a year-round program that encourages Alberta drivers to turn in their older, polluting vehicles for scrapping and recycling. Rewards for participating include $750 towards a new GM vehicle, or in some cities, up to $300 off the purchase of a bicycle or six months of transit passes. To qualify, vehicles must be 1995 or older, drivable, registered and insured in Alberta for the past six consecutive months.

Communities participating in the program include Bonnyville, Calgary, Cold Lake, Coronation, Edmonton, Lethbridge, St. Paul, Stettler, Vegreville and Vermillion. Between 2003-2007, Car Heaven program recycled over 5,000 cars in Alberta.
