Carbon Connections ConferenceCarbon Connections, a conference organized by C3, brought over 130 producers, brokers and government representatives to Calgary in 2005 to discuss ways the agricultural sector can help Canada reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Part of this strategy could include trading GHG reductions with Large Final Emitters required to reduce emissions under a GHG regulatory system in Canada. To simulate this opportunity, a mock-negotiation workshop made the conference room a "live" trading floor where producers joined with brokers, lawyers and buyers to trade GHG reduction credits. Other sessions looked at ways producers can actually reduce GHG's with a focus on energy efficiency options, water conservation and land management.
Connie Barritt, a cattle grazer near Red Deer, attended Carbon Connections.
