Federal Government announces end to federal ecoENERGY grants – July 13, 2011

Explanation of Changes:

  • The Alberta rebate program has not changed.
  • The federal government announced on July 13, 2011 that the grant portion of the federal ecoENERGY retrofit program will be renewed between June 6, 2011 and March 31, 2012.
  • Grant amounts remain the same as in the previous federal program.
  • New and past participants must register at http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/registration before booking a home energy evaluation.
  • Only upgrades purchased as of June 6, 2011, and installed after the date of a pre-retrofit evaluation are eligible for a grant.
  • Participants must register, complete their renovations, obtain a post-retrofit evaluation and sign a grant application form no later than March 31, 2012. Eligible participants can only apply once for upgrades implemented between June 6, 2011 and March 31, 2012.
  • Owners of multiple properties can now receive up to $1,000,000 over the life of the program (April 2007 to March 2012). The maximum federal grant a homeowner can receive for a specific property remains $5,000 over the life of the program (April 2007 to March 2012).

Questions

Is Alberta’s rebate program affected by the renewal of the federal ecoENERGY Retrofit Program?

The Alberta rebate program is unchanged, and our six rebates will be administered as normal. Applications are still required for high efficiency furnaces and boilers, qualifying new homes and domestic hot water (only if not installed as part of upgrades through the ecoENERGY Retrofit Program).  Applications are not required for rebates associated with the federal ecoENERGY Retrofit Program (home energy evaluations, insulation and domestic hot water). However, Natural Resources Canada has indicated that processing of federal grants will not start until September. This will cause a delay in C3 receiving the required information to process provincial rebates.
