2nd Emissions Trading Simulation To Take Place In Calgary13/05/2003Climate Change Central is pleased to announce that it will host the Alberta Emissions Trading Simulation 2003-CO2, NOX and SOX, at the University of Calgary, September 16-17, 2003. The simulation will be delivered in partnership with CO2e.com LLC, a subsidiary of Cantor Fitzgerald, and global leader in emissions brokerage services, and Alberta Environment. September's emission trading simulation will build on the success of the 2001 simulation and the work of Alberta Environment's Emission Trading Project by having participants trade not only greenhouse gases but also nitrous oxide (NOX) and sulphur dioxide (SOX). "The goal of the simulation is to allow participants to develop an appreciation of the impacts of future potential regulatory frameworks on emissions trading," says Allan Amey, President and CEO of Climate Change Central. "Alberta companies are operating in a global marketplace and are looking for ways to gauge how alternative regulatory policies and trading emissions credits will impact their operations." The two-day event will include representatives from 50 companies and use benchmark data from an Alberta Environment preliminary feasibility study that assesses the feasibility of multipollutant emissions trading. This simulation will also make use of current industry and corporate data. "The simulation will offer participants an opportunity to fully understand how the use of markets can assist in driving business decisions consistent with economic efficiency and environmental integrity," says Corinne Boone, Managing Director of CO2e.com. "Our experience with the use of the simulation tool has proven to be exceedingly successful in demonstrating to participants how markets can assist with the achievement of environmental objects and also how external forces impact business decision-making processes. CO2e.com is very excited to partner with Climate Change Central to deliver this initiative."
